Our Teacher Toolkit provides easy-to-use lessons, templates, and worksheets that are ready for your students in four simple steps:

Explore ideas Together

Spark creativity and collaboration with writing prompts that invite and inspire everyone in your classroom to do their best work.

“Six-Word Memoirs bring out the best in my students. They are able to showcase their creativity and personal experience in a humorous, fun-loving way, but may also choose to display deeper, more complex emotions if they so choose.”

SARAH NGUYEN,
6TH GRADE ENGLISH TEACHER HIGH POINT ACADEMY PASADENA, CA

Engage all your students

“Six words helps students to break big ideas down to smaller bites, think deeper about their stories, and unlock personal expression. I’ve seen kids work through writer's block; in just thirty minutes they feel like they have accomplished something.”

TERRY ASHKINOS,
7TH & 8TH GRADE TEAM LEAD CHILDREN'S DAY SCHOOL SAN FRANCISCO, CA

End the scariness of the blank page for all your students and watch them engage in higher cognitive writing, starting with just Six-Words.

Publish your students’ personal narrative.

Curating your students’ words into a printed book captures their unique perspective, builds confidence in their written communication skills, and grows your classroom budget.

“The day I used Six-Word Memoirs was the day my students came alive. Finally, being free to not only write long narratives helped them to discover the essence of themselves and the heart of their writing.”

CANDRA MCKENZIE,
HALLPASSBREAK PODCAST HOST & HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER NEW YORK CITY, NY

Celebrate community and make a memory!

“Many students in our class shared deeply personal experiences in their Six-Word Memoirs, and sharing them helped to bring our class closer together and build a team spirit.”

LEAH RUEDIGER,
TEACHER NYC’S P.S. 86 THE BRONX, NY

Building a strong sense of community is the foundation for learning. It’s essential in every classroom. Sharing and celebrating each student’s published story deepens existing bonds and builds lasting memories.

How can parents order books?

Parents are under no obligation to purchase, however for those that do will place all orders online. Teachers don't have to manage orders, we've got it! We’ll send ready-made emails and custom order forms to participating teachers to make the process simple. We ship books directly to parents, or to the classroom for the teacher to distribute.

What kinds of books are available?

Teachers may choose between an illustrated book that contains space for students’ writing to appear with their own, hand-drawn illustrations, or a literary book that provides space for students to publish their six-word memoirs alongside a brief description of the process that led them to their six words.

How long does it take to teach the Six-Word format?

Teachers spend, on average, 60 to 120 minutes with their students to complete their Six-Word book project. Some teachers choose to allocate additional time for editing and revision. The beauty is its flexibility. Some teachers decide to use it as bell and exit work, while others use it in a more substantive way to teach planning, writing, revising, and editing.

How do I get my complimentary classroom book?

When you sign up to participate in the Six in Schools program, you identify the day you’ll teach the Six-Word format in class, the day you’d like to begin making books available to parents for purchase, and the day you’d like to receive your free classroom book to celebrate your student’s creativity. We take care of the rest.
